Your role

As a Data Governance Architect at element61, you will play a key advisory role in shaping and delivering our clients’ data governance and data strategy ambitions. This position is intended for an experienced professional who thrives on helping organizations define their data vision and governance frameworks, enabling them to extract business value from data in a controlled, scalable, and sustainable manner.

Working with a diverse mix of clients across various sectors, you will lead strategic engagements, define data governance operating models, and support enterprise-wide implementations of governance capabilities, including data cataloging, data quality management, master data management, and data security & compliance. You will act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, with the ability to translate business challenges into pragmatic data governance solutions.

As a Data Governance Architect, you will work hands-on in designing & building data governance solutions. Each project will have concrete deliverables and a deadline, ensuring a variety of engagements across clients & industries.

Key responsibilities

As a Data Governance Architect, you will:

Your activities will consist of:

  • Advise clients on data governance strategies, frameworks, and operating models aligned with their business objectives and regulatory requirements

  • Lead the assessment, design, and implementation of enterprise data governance capabilities (data ownership, stewardship models, data domains, glossaries, etc.)

  • Guide clients in the adoption and maturity of data governance tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Profisee, Soda, Ataccama, Informatica, OvalEdge)

  • Define policies and processes for data quality, metadata management, and master data domains

  • Define and implement data security and compliance controls using Microsoft Purview 

  • Support organizations in implementing data classification, sensitivity labeling, and access policies to meet internal security standards and external regulations (e.g., GDPR)

  • Work collaboratively with data engineering teams, business stakeholders, and IT architects to embed governance into data platforms and pipelines

  • Provide guidance  in the selection and integration of governance tools within client ecosystems

  • Deliver workshops and training sessions to elevate data literacy and governance awareness within organizations

  • Support clients in setting up data governance councils and communities of practice

  • Contribute to pre-sales, RFP responses, and shaping new service offerings around data governance strategy

  • Coach and mentor more junior team members and act as a thought leader within the element61 data governance community

You will work (standalone or in team) with clients and have a responsibility for managing project timelines, conducting status meetings, and coaching & training colleagues and customers.


Being a Data Governance Architect at element61 means you will work with businesses and executives in Belgium, helping them to understand the impact of data quality, data cataloging, master data management, and governance. Over time, we’ll encourage you to build functional expertise within a business or technical domain of your interest.

Job requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or data strategy roles, preferably in a consulting or advisory context

  • Demonstrated expertise in defining and operationalizing data governance frameworks and processes

  • Solid understanding of enterprise data architecture, metadata management, MDM, and data quality

  • Familiarity with modern data governance tools (e.g., Purview, Profisee, Soda, Ataccama, Informatica, OvalEdge, etc.) and cloud data platforms (preferably Azure)

  • Practical experience with data security, data classification, and access management in data platforms (Microsoft Purview experience is highly desirable)

  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with experience in influencing C-level and business leadership

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to connect business objectives with governance capabilities

  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills, able to lead workshops and trainings

  • University degree in Information Management, Business Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields

  • Fluent in English; proficiency in Dutch or French is considered an asset
