Thibault Verduyn

After graduating with a degree in Business Engineering, option Data Analytics, from Ghent University in June 2020, I embarked on my professional journey at element61 in September of the same year. This marked the onset of a unique chapter, navigating the challenges posed by the then-infamous COVID-19 virus. Notably, I became the first recruit at element61 to complete the entire application process digitally, a testament to the adaptability required during those uncertain times. As the summer of 2020 drew to a close, I eagerly participated in my onboarding at the Brussels Office on the 1st of September—reminiscent of a first day at school but under strict conditions that allowed for a physical presence. For many, including myself, it was a return to the office after an extended absence. Assigned the guidance of a seasoned coach, Jan, I was fortunate to be the sole newcomer in the Qlik Competence Center. Living nearby, Jan graciously invited me to join his 'bubble,' and despite the limitations on daily office visits, I spent a significant portion of my initial two working months at Jan's place. This arrangement not only facilitated a rapid learning curve through numerous questions (perhaps at times too many) but also provided an unexpected avenue for knowledge sharing—during lunch breaks, Jan and I engaged in the fine art of playing Fifa, a fitting tribute to our culture of collaborative learning at element61.

As the winter of 2020 descended, tightening regulations ushered in a phase of heightened restrictions, necessitating a shift to remote work for all of us. Farewell to the daily Fifa breaks over lunch... Amidst these changes, my focus remained steadfast on multiple Qlik projects, catering to a diverse mix of clients, both large and small. Fast forward a few years, and I find myself entrenched in the dynamic realm of the Qlik Competence Center, a decision made in 2020 that I haven't regretted for a single moment. Throughout my journey, project diversity has been a constant, offering me ample opportunities to explore various facets of my role. In the current year, 2023, I've had the privilege of collaborating with 22 different clients across a wide array of sectors.

While my primary focus has consistently revolved around Qlik technology—a domain I find immensely gratifying—I've also embraced opportunities to broaden my expertise. As a testament to this, I proudly earned certification as a Power BI Data Analyst Associate. At element61, a company that places a premium on personal development and knowledge sharing, I've found unwavering support for such pursuits. This commitment ensures that every employee has the time and resources to stay ahead in our rapidly evolving industry, where staying abreast of daily changes is paramount. Looking back, I am grateful for the continuous growth and learning that element61 has facilitated, making it an environment where professional development is not just encouraged but ingrained in the company's ethos.

As evident from the Fifa example, life at element61 isn't always about 'working hard.' Quite frequently, there's a delightful balance with time to 'play hard.' This vibrant aspect of our culture is underscored by our annual team weekend—a tradition that, if the rumors are to be believed, may have left a lasting payment plan at some bars across Europe. The same spirit of camaraderie extends to our legendary ski trips and the Qlik Fifa Tournament, a lively competition born from the daily matches Jan and I enjoyed back in 2020.

Adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the element61 experience, I proudly serve as a member of the After-Work Committee. Together, we orchestrate a range of events, spanning from competitive padel tournaments to cosy board game evenings and, of course, the unmissable annual trip to the 'Gentse Feesten.' These collective endeavours not only contribute to a vibrant and engaging workplace but also forge lasting bonds among colleagues, making element61 more than just a workplace—it's a community of shared experiences and memorable moments.

In conclusion, my journey at element61 has been filled with growth, camaraderie, and moments of joy. If you're curious to know more about life at element61, I'd be delighted to share my experiences over a (digital) coffee or a delicious craft beer.
